Where to Stay in Blagaj, Bosnia — Best Rentals & Guesthouses 2025
Most visitors to Blagaj arrive as a day trip from Mostar, but staying overnight changes everything. Waking up to the sound of the Buna river, having the Tekke to yourself before the tour groups arrive, and eating dinner on a quiet terrace as the last daylight fades over the cliffs — this is a completely different experience from the daytime rush.
Why Stay in Blagaj Rather Than Mostar?
Mostar is busy, especially in summer. Blagaj offers almost all the same access (20 minutes by taxi or car) with significantly more tranquility. You'll pay less for accommodation, have better air quality, hear birds instead of traffic, and get the village almost entirely to yourself after 6pm when the day-trippers leave.
If you're spending more than one night in Herzegovina, we strongly recommend basing yourself in Blagaj over Mostar for at least part of your stay.

Practical Information
Getting Around from Blagaj
A car is useful but not essential. The village is walkable (Tekke, restaurants, local shops all within 15 minutes on foot). Taxis to Mostar cost 20–25 BAM each way and take 15–20 minutes. Several taxi drivers in the area offer half-day or full-day hire for day trips around Herzegovina.
What to Bring
- Modest clothing for visiting the Tekke (covered shoulders and knees)
- Cash in BAM — not all local shops and smaller restaurants accept cards
- Insect repellent for summer evenings near the river
- A light jacket — river valleys can be cool after sunset even in summer
